Seilbahnen Schweiz – die Branchenvertretung der Schweizer Seilbahnen Seilbahnen Schweiz (SBS)
Cable cars association in Switzerland – the industry representative for Swiss cable cars Cable Cars Switzerland (SBS) is the association of the Swiss cable car industry, which is committed to the common concerns and interests of Swiss cable car companies and promotes their cooperation. SBS has around 350 full members, including all renowned cable car companies from various regions of Switzerland, but also medium-sized and smaller cable cars and around 130 friendly members. The association also trains cable car professionals of the future and offers both cable car apprenticeships and various further training courses.
The mission of the Swiss Cable Cars is to represent the concerns and interests of its 350 members in the best possible way and to promote cooperation. We design the framework conditions for Swiss cable cars with foresight and train future cable car specialists. SBS also develops solutions for future challenges in the industry and is in active dialogue with authorities and political decision-makers. Cable Cars Switzerland advises members on questions regarding technology and safety of cable car systems and is an important contact for the media. The association has its headquarters in Bern and a training center in Meiringen in the Bernese Oberland.
Together for the Swiss cable car companies
As an interest group, Seilbahnen Schweiz is committed to the concerns of Swiss cable car companies. During the Covid pandemic, the association successfully campaigned to ensure that the Swiss ski areas were able to start operations in the winter of 2020/2021 and remained exempt from the certificate requirement during the second Corona winter. We are currently committed to a sustainable development perspective for snow sports areas in the areas of renewable energy and electricity management.
The cable cars in Switzerland are the economic engine in many mountain regions. They also enable guests to have unforgettable experiences. The entire SBS team puts a lot of passion and commitment into highlighting its importance in public, politics and the media.

An association with history
Cable cars Switzerland has successfully represented the Swiss cable car industry for many decades and the employees bring a lot of know-how and experience with them. The predecessor association of SBS was founded in Olten in 1900. In 2021, SBS broke away from the Association of Public Transport (VöV) in order to better represent the interests of its members and have a lasting positive influence on the industry image.
International collaborations
All Alpine countries have similar themes. Therefore, the exchange with neighboring and international industry representatives is very important for SBS. We are in regular contact with the respective industry representatives in Germany, Austria and France, share our know-how and benefit from each other. SBS is, among other things, a member of the International Ropeway Organization OITAF and the International Federation of National Associations of Ropeway Companies (FIANET).
