FIANET was founded in 1958 with its registered office in France, is one of the most important and effective organizations promoting the interests of the cableway industry.

FIANET represents the national associations and operators of all types of cableways (including funiculars, reversible and circulating gondola lifts, chair lifts and surface ski lifts) at the EU level. In addition to fostering formal and informal contacts between the national associations, its tasks notably include the elaboration of joint statements on cross-national, topical issues.

Two working meetings are held annually, with the organization being taken over each year by
another member on a rotational basis. The languages of the meetings currently are French and
German.
