The Norwegian alpine industry encompasses many considerations and interests. The alpine resorts in our country vary from being the large cornerstone company in the village to being the important evening entertainment in the neighborhood.
Whether large or small, public health, employment and business development are important aspects of the industry’s work. The interest organization “Norwegian Alpine Resorts and Mountain Destinations” is the industry organization for all Norwegian mountain destinations and alpine resorts in Norway. Important themes for the association are safety, both in the ski lift and on the slopes, ensuring good framework conditions for the industry, and “getting more people skiing – more often”.
The ski lift industry association was first founded in December 1969 under the name Norwegian Ski- and Mountain Lifts Association. In 1993, a full-time secretariat was established and in 2003 the association was named the Alpine Resorts National Association. ALF has been one of the older alpine national associations in Europe, and we have good and continuous dialogue with the industry associations in the Nordic countries and the Alpine countries. The association works actively to raise awareness of the important work that is done by our members all year round. Destination development, also in the summer months, has become more important for the industry in recent years.
The association has many partners and good dialogue with associated members. The Norwegian Ski Association, the Norwegian Boarding Association, NIG, DNS and our Swedish colleagues in SLAO are some of those with whom we collaborate on various issues. We are also a member of the international ski lift organizations FIANET and O.I.T.A.F. and the association is an associate member of the international ski patrol organization FIPS. Participation in international industry forums and cooperation is important in finding good solutions to common challenges.
Through the association’s membership in Norsk Reiseliv, we have the opportunity to help influence and ensure good framework conditions for the entire tourism industry. We now stand together on the need for increased recruitment, increased funds for foreign marketing and exports, electricity support schemes, etc. The association is also a member of NHO Reiseliv, and through this membership we also have the opportunity to shed light on some of the challenges our members and industries face. NHO has a clear and distinct voice in matters concerning tourism.
